Frequently Asked Questions

What age can I start training my dog?

We can start training your dog from as early as 8 weeks of age. Your dog will have had some of its vaccinations by then and should remain with its mother until at least eight weeks of age.

Can I teach an old dog new tricks?

Yes! An old dog can learn new habits regardless of age. It does generally take an old dog longer to learn a new skill, however. We must also consider any age related health issues that may impact on the dogs overall well being. Your dogs welfare is the first thing we consider when developing an appropriate training and behaviour management plan. Your vets input may be required to ensure the best possible outcome for both you and your dog.

Can you work with more than one dog in a household?

Yes! Multi dog households are very common these days. Our head trainer has two rescues of her own, so understands the challenges that multi dog fur families face.
Additional charges do apply at a discounted rate for multi dog households.
Please contact us for an obligation free chat or check out our terms and conditions for further information.

What behavioural problems do we deal with?

You name it, we can work with you towards a solution. Some of the most common problem behaviours we address are biting, barking, howling, jumping, digging, humping, toilet training, resource guarding of food, people, and toys. Aggressive behaviours towards other animals and people, anxiety and fear, poor socialisation skills, and not coming when called. We tailor programs for dogs that have issues related to visits to the vets, groomers and cafes. We also have programs tailored to help families integrate a new baby, dog, or other animal into their household. We can help mend broken bonds and restore balance that may have been affected when you brought home a new family member. We understand that owners can be time poor so we offer several dog walking options to compliment our at-home services, as well as private obedience classes. We conduct group walks at various off-leash dog parks where requested, on lead solo walks, and a walk and train services for dogs that pull on the lead or suffer from leash reactivity that need some expert attention. For any other issues not covered above or for further information regarding our services, please contact us for an obligation free chat to discuss how we may be able to help.

What is an at home behavioural consultation and how can it help me?

Our at-home behavioural consultation allows you to address the behaviour related issues that you are experiencing, specific to your dog and your home environment. In-home behavioural consultations allow you to address problem behaviours that may not be able to be resolved by attending group training classes, such as fear and aggression issues, destructive behaviours such as chewing and digging, or anxiety related behaviours such as nuisance barking. The consultation involves a thorough behavioural questionnaire to be completed prior to the initial consultation & then a one hour intensive assessment of your dog conducted in your home. During the consultation, our qualified trainer observes and assesses your dog's environment, relationship between you and your dog, and your dog's overall behaviour in relation to you and their environment. We will take your dog to locations where the inappropriate behaviour is triggered and assess the root cause of the behaviour. On the spot behaviour management recommendations and techniques will be communicated where appropriate and we will address any key concerns the same day. Once we have a full understanding of the behavioural issues you are facing with your dog, and their triggers, we can then guide you on how to help your dog to correct these issues.
We will explain to you the reasons behind your dog's inappropriate behaviours and explain and demonstrate the process we need to use to help rehabilitate your dog, bringing them back into a more balanced state. In most cases, you will observe positive changes in their behaviour during your first consultations. At the completion of the consultation, you will receive a summary of the consultation covering the points discussed with you whilst at your home and the initial training to be implemented. You will receive this via email within 48 hours of your appointment and/or within 48 hours of the next business day, for appointments that fall on a Friday or weekend. You will also receive free phoned based support to help you troubleshoot during your training journey. Consistency in implementation of these points is integral to ensure lasting results in the modification of your dogs behaviour, as well as ensuring that follow up appointments are kept so that training programs can be modified as your dog progresses. Overall, we aim to develop a well-balanced dog, and a harmonious relationship between you, your dog, and your family. Call us today for an obligation free chat about your furry family member and how we may be able to assist you. Multiple dog homes welcome, however additional fees apply.

Why Choose Us?

Like people, every dog is different. They each have their own special personality traits that are impacted by their breed, age, and the environment they grew up in. As well as the experiences they had during their critical period of development, did you know that your dogs genetic make up plays a very important role in determining their propensity to develop certain behaviour related issues? Whilst some of these traits are endearing some lead to those pesky inappropriate behaviours that make living with them just that little bit harder.
Though you would never live without them our certified trainer can help you to understand why the behaviour is occurring and equip you with practical training and management solutions that will fit in with you and your lifestyle. Our balanced approach to training means we understand the importance of reinforcing desired behaviours and developing clear rules and boundaries in order to shape a happy, well balanced dog. Do you guarantee results

It is unethical to guarantee results, as leading organisations such as the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT) and Council of Certified Pet Dog Trainers (CCPDT) and many others, state in their code of ethics. Because of variables in dog breeding and temperament and owner commitment and experience, a trainer cannot and should not guarantee the results of his/her training. We only see you and your dog for 1 hour each appointment, and we cannot guarantee your commitment to implementing required training outside of these hours either. We all know that life gets busy! We pride ourselves on results and aim to train your dog using the most effective, safe and enjoyable training methods, based on scientifically sound research and best practice. We are committed to giving you the tools and knowledge to teach your dog what is expected of them in all situation and aim to strengthen the bond between you and your dog. Training is also something that you need to continue for the life of your dog. It is a journey that can be a very rewarding and fulfilling. A Journey which we would love to help you with!
